Hydrocarbon speciation is necessary for the determination of Maximum Incremental Reactivity (MIR) coefficients, which are applied in the calculation of NMOG (non-methane organic gases) emissions. NMOGs are regulated in Brazil by Proconve due to their role as precursors in tropospheric ozone formation. The speciation of compounds in the C2 to C12 range was performed using a gas chromatography system coupled to a mass spectrometer, calibrated with a standard gas recommended by the California Air Resources Board (CARB), based on samples of gaseous emissions collected in inert metal spheres. A vehicle equipped with a 1.0L turbocharged engine and direct fuel injection (GDI) was evaluated under the urban driving cycle (NBR-6601). The results were consistent with previous Petrobras studies on Proconve L4 to L7 vehicles, showing the presence of typical gasoline combustion compounds in the E22 tests, and elevated levels of C2 compounds (ethene, ethane, and ethyne) when using hydrated ethanol.

Honorable Mention

Theme: Mobility Comfort

“Development and optimization of solutions for reducing the contribution of radiated noise from the intake system in naturally aspirated engines”

Authors: Edmar Baars, Vibroacustica Desenvolvimento e Pesquisa , Clodoaldo Aguado, Volkswagen do Brasil Indústria de Veículos Automotores , Emerson Delphini Correa, Volkswagen do Brasil Indústria de Veículos Automotores, Mario Augusto Muraro Janizelli, Volkswagen do Brasil Indústria de Veículos Automotores , Celso Kenzo Takemori Vibroacustica Desenvolvimento e Pesquisa, Gustavo Rafael Bernarde, Vibroacustica Desenvolvimento e Pesquisa e Diego Willian da Silva, Vibroacustica Desenvolvimento e Pesquisa.

Theme: Conventional and Alternative Fuels and Lubricants

“High-Level Biodiesel Blends Evaluation in Heavy?Duty Off?Road Diesel Engines on a Dynamometer Test Bench.”

Authors: Victor Machado Salvador de Oliveira, VALE S.A., Clayton Barcelos Zabe, Instituto Mauá de Tecnologia, Jean Amadeo Brambila, Instituto Mauá de Tecnologia, Maristhela Passoni de Araújo Marin, Instituto Mauá de Tecnologia e Carina Okuhara, Vale S.A

Theme: Vehicle Dynamics and Controls

“Gear Shifting Optimization Using Genetic Algorithms and Neural Networks “.

Authors: Vitor Henrique Gomes da Silva, Leticia de Oliveira Pimentel, Áquila Chagas de Carvalho e Jony Javorski Eckert – Universidade Estadual de Campinas.

Theme: Emissions and Pollutants Caused by Vehicles

“Development of TWC Catalysts to meet PROCONVE L-8 Bin30 target for EtOH blend fuel vehicles”.

Authors: Dongxia Donna Liu, Maria Vlachou, Dongsheng Qiao, Mike Chen, Michael Howard e Dean Ji – Johnson Matthey

“ELight-off strategies and challenges for small GDI Turbo Flex engines in Brazil – from PL6 to PL8+ / “

Authors: Daniel Hirata, Willian Daneluci, Oscar Javier Duque e Ariel Makoto Bepu – FEV América Latina

Theme: Advanced Vehicle Driveline and Energy Management

“Dynamometer bench to emulate hybridization strategies”.

Authors: Matheus Henrique Rodrigues Miranda, Universidade Estadual de Campinas , Áquila Chagas de Carvalho, Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Maria Augusta de Menezes Lourenço, Volkswagen do Brasil, Marcelo Rohrig, Volkswagen do Brasil , Fernando Fusco Rovai, Volkswagen do Brasil, Jony Javorski Eckert, Universidade Estadual de Campinas e Ludmila Corrêa de Alkmin e Silva, Universidade Estadual de Campinas.

“Optimization of Antenna Geometry for Microwave-Assisted Plasma Ignition in Internal Combustion Engines”

Authors: Henrique Chaves Gulino, Ronaldo Domingues Mansano, Antonio Carlos Santos de Arruda, Nelson Ordonez e Armando Antônio Maria Laganá – Universidade de São Paulo.

Theme: Manufacturing, Materials and Lightweight Solutions

“Impact of Electrical Current on Electrified Tribosystems: A Study on Nitrided AISI 4140”.

Authors: Tainan Daniel Andrioni, Julia Afonso Pires, José Daniel Biasoli Mello, Diego Berti Salvaro e Cristiano Binder, Gisele Hammes, Francisco Cavilha Neto e Diandra Grossmann Pereira – Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina.

Theme: Digital Transformation

“ATLAS: Bench & ECU data synchronization platform with graphical user interface”.

Authors: Vinícius Motta Benatti, Arthur de Carvalho Abelha e Estela Mari Ricetti Bueno – MAHLE R&D Engineering Services

Best Technical Paper Award SIMEA 2026 “Speciated hydrocarbons in exhaust emissions of a Proconve L8 flex fuel vehicle using E22 gasohol and hydrated ethanol”.
